Helping Your Child Learn Left & Right

Does your child need a little extra help putting their shoes on their right feet? My daughter is very independent and has been dressing herself for quite some time now, but she was having problems putting her shoes on the wrong feet. I have seen this hack before with stickers, which is also a great ideal however; they just didn’t work out very well. Within one wear, the stickers were stuck to her socks. I took the same idea and just used a permanent marker. Before I drew the shape on the shoe, we did a few practice runs on some cut pieces of paper, much like a two piece puzzle. There were several shapes to choose from; heart, circle, square, star, happy face etc. I wanted her to be comfortable with the shape, so she picked a heart and a happy face. For the shoes with a light soul, we used a black sharpie and for the shoes with a dark colored soul, we used a white sharpie. Disclaimer: The pictures do fade over time, so you will need to reapply the shapes. We also discovered this summer, that the pictures on the sandals she wore without socks did rub off on her feet a bit. But honestly, it didn’t bother me or her, being that it was on the bottom of her foot.

What ticks have you found useful helping your little one determine their right and left shoe?
